Hello World!
I am not Jewish. I know your probably thinking - what the heck. Only Jewish and Seventh Day folks do this sort of thing. Well, I am neither. I don't even know where to put myself. I grew up Lutheran. Used to attend a non-domination church, I believe in Jesus. But, you see this strange thing happened when my son asked me to home school him. While we studied ancient history we learned more about the 'Christian' and 'Jewish' history. Then we started to dig deeper and learned about Pagan Gods. How many of our church traditions came from Pagan traditions and how our "Christian Church" has no clue. It really is disturbing.
As my walk with Jesus started to grow I felt the desire to keep Sabbath. I have ZERO Sabbath mentors. I have NO CLUE what I am doing or how to do Sabbath. I have read some books, blogs and websites to get an idea but I am a hands on learner and I have no hands to hold onto! So, bare with me if I goof up. Grace is needed!
Let's see, I prefer to learn or read up from Jewish sites and books. My reason is that Jesus was a Jew. The bible told me to follow him and learn from him. So, this is my attempt. Now, lets add food allergies into the mix and I cannot do the man made holidays the same way. GRACE comes to play here and I thank God for this. I pray that he leads me to where he sees fit that I go, I obey and not do my own thing...
Paleo lifestyle here we come! UGH. Easier said than done. We have four people in our home. With all of the allergies and intolerance's we can only eat meat, veggies, fruit and seeds. I LOVE Pintrest! Tons of recipes for Paleo which leads you to websites, blogs and my favorite, awesome success stories. Gotta love a good story!
That's it. That is why I am starting this blog. Documenting my attempts of keeping Sabbath, Paleo Style. Hey! That is a good blog name. Maybe I should change that...
Take Care!

Hello Amy! I see no one else has commented. I get to be the first! hahaha
ReplyDeleteI guess there are not so many people wanting to follow the Jewish Holy Days with a paleo twist. I am trying to do just that. My family suffers with many food allergies as well.
My personal faith journey has led me to desire to observe the Sabbath as well. My husband and I plan to start tomorrow night.
We are friends with a couple from our church who have just started celebrating recently as well.
Like you, we felt a check as the holidays rolled around. I have been feeling myself gradually distancing myself. I have donated a lot of my former decorations and purchased new ones with a spiritual aspect rather than cute bunnies, eggs and santa clause. We have small children and I want to raise them to love and honor God and not get so caught up in the materialistic nonsense involved and the pagan history left us feeling lacking somehow.
Although we will modify the rituals a bit to suit our faith. (We are Pentecostal/Apostolic and believe in one God and Jesus God in flesh) We feel there is alot more value in celebrating Jewish holy days than in holidays steeped in pagan rituals.
I am hopeful that these traditions will impact our children and they will carry on the traditions in their families.
I was looking for recipes and ideas when I stumbled on your blog.
Would love to hear more about your journey and experiences.
God bless you!
Hi Karie! Thanks for stopping. I am going to sound really dumb but I thought I deleted this blog. I would love to chat more with you about my journey and yours. Not many are on the Jewish Roots journey but then to add Paleo to it. I really thought I was the only one! amy dot freundschuh at gmail dot com
